“There was much to do by bike in Thassos, but we chose only one day for a bike tour and we opted for an easy but spectacular one: to climb from the seaside to the top of the island, peak Ipsarion 1201 m.
A clear difference of 1,200 m with Florin and two horses rented from Yannis. Bikes were full xt and in my case with a face fork from Fox. Altogether 20 euros, a price as OK as possible and an alternative to consider in the future, because I must admit that I do not like to carry the bike with me overseas.
We started at 6 am to avoid the heat and well we did. At 10:30 we reached the summit after a climb of 20 km, and the temperatures were still decent at the time. When we got to the car, the 36 degrees have slowed us a little, but I was stuck with that incredible view from the summit and with the smell that only Mediterranean pines have.
For this ride I haven’t opted for the Merinito wool jersey, but I chose their Boxer Briefs underwear. It proved an excellent choice both on the ascent as for descent. I got rid of those delicate moments when you sweat a lot during hot weather (as it was in Thassos), and the feeling I had with a classic cotton underwear, that total discomfort, was eliminated.
It was a beautiful tour with a promise that I'll come back in Thassos, also for MTB. “
